There is absolutely no need to continue living with a smile that you don’t love, or that you don’t feel proud to show off. Modern dentistry offers the effective and convenient care that you need to improve dental aesthetics. Today, our San Francisco cosmetic dentists are walking you through the process of planning treatment.

  • Assessment

The first thing that our dentist will do is to complete a thorough assessment of your smile. We are looking for any existing infections or anomalous tissues, which may need to be treated prior to aesthetic treatment. The last thing that we want to do is to make your smile look perfect, while leaving underlying issues to fester and become more severe.

During your assessment, we will also talk to you about your aesthetic goals. Do you want to transform your entire smile? Focus on specific teeth? Achieve a straighter, seamless smile? Share as much information as you can so that we can tailor treatment to meet your needs.

  • Treatment Options

The next step is to give you information about the many treatment options available to you. For example, you could straighten the appearance of your smile with orthodontic treatment, or you could use restorations to make your smile appear straighter without actually moving your natural teeth. The primary considerations at this phase are your timeline, ideal budget, and post-treatment maintenance goals.

Sleep apnea is a chronic condition that can take a toll on your smile as well as you're overall wellbeing. Because the symptoms of sleep apnea manifest at night, it can be difficult for patients to notice on their own.

Our San Francisco sleep apnea dentists have put together this short overview of commonly experienced sleep apnea symptoms. If you recognize any of these symptoms in your daily life, then it is time to reach out for an evaluation with our team!

Snoring

Sleep apnea develops when relaxed oral tissues collapse into the airway while the patient is asleep. Snoring results from the patient struggling to inhale and exhale despite the obstruction. If you are snoring regularly this means that your airway is not clear. Snoring may be accompanied by gasping or choking sensation that wakes you in the middle of the night.

Headaches

Because it is difficult to breathe when suffering from sleep apnea, your blood oxygen levels will drop throughout the night. When blood oxygen levels are sufficiently depleted, your body automatically wakes you, in order to restart the breathing process. This result in a disrupted night’s sleep. If you are waking up with headaches it may be due to poor sleep quality and insufficient oxygen during the night.

Dry Mouth

Many sleep apnea sufferers end up trying to breathe through their mouths to inhale more oxygen. Unfortunately, this makes it difficult for your body to produce enough saliva to keep your mouth moist. You’ll end up waking with a dry mouth, and, because saliva levels are depleted, you are more likely to suffer from bad breath as well as increased levels of oral bacteria.

Obstructive sleep apnea rarely improves on its own, in fact it can get worse over time. Our San Francisco dentists are happy to answer any questions that you may have—just give our office a call to get started!
